Classic Greece

The Classic Greece includes the period from the VIIIth century B.C. up to the limits of the Christian age, and the space that today we know as Greece, Turkey and several colonies interspersed by the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. His art and music showed the way towards the musical chore in Occident. The Greeks were considering of big value the musician. They were using it in funerals, weddings, births and religious festivals. They were singing and dancing to the sound of distant instruments like the double oboe "aulós" or the flute of Bread (several aligned open canes). Even the philosophers dealt with the music, attributing a psychological and spiritual meaning to him on the human soul. In addition to Platón and Aristotle we find writings and studies on the music prepared by Pitágoras, which related the mathematics and the flaming science of the sound. The Classic Greece was the first western civilization that there described the music as an art and an expression of importance in the formation of the citizens.

Musical cosmogony

The Hellenic gods were adopting appearances and human conducts. Apollo is the god of the poetry, the arts and the medicine. He directs the choir of the Muses, inspirers of the artistic and brilliant creation. His son Esculapio, had similar qualities and even the power to treat the evil. Again there intermingle the art, the magic and the health. Apollo supports in his arms a lyre, I arrange originally made with the shell of a turtle covered by a skin of ram and with ropes tightened on a crossbar. Hermes, on the other hand, invented the flute of the shepherds he competes with the Bread flute for conquering the ears of the peasants.

The last one is driven across a series of compressors and pistons that insuflan it angers for a few pipes when a rudimentary keyboard bangs.
They were using percussion instruments also, how the krotala, a species of castanets, the kymbala or saucers and the xylophon documented from the IVth century in reproductions on amphorae of Apulia.
