Plácido Domingo will be Pablo Neruda in the opera Il Postino

The Opera of Los Angeles, which Plácido Domingo directs the Spanish tenor, has just communicated that there will open his period on September 23 with the premiere of the opera Il Postino, based on the movie namesake of Michael Radford, who in turn inspired in the Ardent book patience, of the Chilean writer Antonio Skármeta. The idea was born of a request of the proper Spanish singer, who asked Catán to specify a lyric project that was involving the two. “La work of Skármeta seemed fantastic to me and immediately I got in touch with Antonio, asking him if it could mount his book, and he loved. It me gave the go-ahead to prepare the libretto and the score ”.

In musical terms, he says that there will be appreciated the influence of big composers of this genre, between them Puccini and Verdi. “Pero also we will hear some proper orchestrations of Debussy, Stravinski, Ravel and Richard Strauss. I have strained in capturing memorable melodies and with moments of big dramatism. With a giant of the size of Plácido Domingo, it had to produce a score to his height ”.

Catán adds that for the role of Matilde Urrutia originally he had thought about a mezzo, but “al to hear Cristina Gallardo-Domâs I decided to fit this role to his soprano voice. She has an extraordinary record. Matilde is the big Neruda support and that's why I re-wrote several times his roll, so that it should show ”.

Catán moves forward that the work will include a memorable love scene between the poet and his dear one. “Normalmente this type of situations happens between younger couples, not between mature as it happens here. I believe that it will be a contribution ”.

Piazzolla represents one of the rarest cases in which an author is unrolled of extraordinary form so much in the world of the popular music, with his tangos of Buenos Aires, as in that of the refined or classic music.
